With apologies to Despair.com

Admittedly, the whole “Successories” thing seems to have run its mid-’90s course. That doesn’t mean that there’s no perfectly good reason to continue to produce satirical imagery (Despair.com’s raison d’être).

Thus, I present to you some of my own mediocre “prints,” originally inspired by a now-defunct thread on the Something Awful forums:

Creating these images was also an excuse to show off some of my photography, though I’m pretty sure a retouched photo of a demolished cube farm isn’t the most arresting thing you’ll ever see.

One of those days…

I think most of us have had them. Anyone who hasn’t is probably an android lacking emotion subroutines and pumped full of heroin.

We’re talking about Bad Days. And I’ll be the first to admit that, as far as days go, it wasn’t that bad — on the surface, anyway. Actually, I think I react better to those kinds of bad days than I do to the existential bad days, where an epiphany sneaks up behind you and wraps a garrote made from rusty piano wire around your neck and chokes you until you’re forced to admit:

“I hate my job.”

Feline furniture

Cat box enclosure (incomplete)It’s nothing new: in fact, from the looks of things, Fat Cat Creations has made a business out of catering to the discriminating cat. And while I’m sure their furniture is indeed up to par (if not above, provided one happens to know what “par” is), I have this bad habit of partially designing things, beginning construction, and ultimately winging it after the fact.

With predictable results.

Inspired by the folks at Fat Cat Creations, I designed the “cat box enclosure” pictured at right, which, hopefully, will not fall into the “You know what? Forget it” category. I’ve actually researched materials to ensure I’m working with accurate dimensions. I took a bunch of blurry, practically useless photos (yay!) with my mobile phone in order to better model the casters and non-mortised concealed hinges I plan to use. To date, I’ve modeled all the boards (complete with dowel holes!), the casters (albeit somewhat inaccurately), and soon enough, I’ll give the hinges a go.

So will I follow through?

We’ll see. In the meantime, I’m also going to include my Google SketchUp file (cb_enc_012c.skp) for anyone who’s interested. And should someone either build or improve upon my design, I’d love to see the result!
